Governor’s Corner
(UPDATED: 3/28/2020)

ROATAN: 16
CORONAVIRUS: 0

During the 12th Facebook live broadcast, Governor Dino Silvestri stated that there is a good chance the existing curfew will be extended. An announcement will be forthcoming and could arrive as early as tomorrow. Much of the decision hinges on the results from six COVID 19 tests. Five tests from patients on Roatan and one from a patient from Santos Guardiola.

Here are the meeting hights:

  • Roatan continues to be in the State of Emergency.

  • There is a team of people working on creating ventilators using scuba equipment.

  • "Make It Count," a US-based nonprofit organization, is helping the Bay Islands establish an official donations page for COVID19 community aid. All disbursements will be available online for transparency's sake.

  • Donations will be distributed across the entire Bay Islands, not just Roatan.

  • There were two flights from United departing from Roatan today.

  • There are now three days remaining for departing international flights.

  • The Roatan Ferry is willing to transfer passengers to La Ceiba upon request. All those interested in an outbound ride from Roatan should contact the Governor's office directly.

  • Travelers were warned that public transportation on the mainland between La Ceiba and other cities may or may not be operational.

  • The Governor has confirmed that the Garifuna Festival, which is usually held on April 12th each year, will be postponed. An official announcement will be released this upcoming Monday.

  • There were 50 travelers transported from Utila to Roatan as departing transfers out of Roatan.

  • A New series introducing the various authorities who are playing a role in the fight against COVID19 will be released soon.

  • Royal Caribbean has postponed visiting Roatan for another 30 days. That will put the next arrival date for Royal Caribbean sometime in May.

  • The Governor stressed again today that the work by Jerry Hynds and Ron McNab has been instrumental in the coordination efforts of first responders and community leaders.

  • There are three reported cases of individuals in Honduras who have recovered from COVID19.

Governor Dino Silvestri encouraged the public to tune in to the daily press briefing by Governor Andrew Cuomo from NYC. This press briefing is meaningful as NYC is recognized as ground zero for the fight against COVID-19.
