Road System Design & Renditions
The Roatan Municipality presents new road network design and renditions.
The municipality of Roatán, with the aid of the infrastructure department, shared renditions of the new road network system they intend to implement on the main road currently being built.The project supervisor, Ricard Castillo, stated that the road design would consist of a two-lane road throughout the entire length of the construction with a third lane in high traffic areas. Furthermore, the plan will include a cycle path and pedestrian sidewalks. The first section will consist of 7,620 meters from Juan Manuel Gálvez Airport.
Education & Adoption
The Roatan Municipality will share explanatory videos on how turn-lanes should be used via its social networks and media partners. The new road design will improve driving conditions and help decongest traffic in highly populated areas.
Implementation
As noted by Mayor Jerry Hynds, there have been delays due to the cumbersome building process followed in Honduras. However, our mayor did clarify that the Roatan Municipality has the necessary funds to carry out the work.
“We are hopeful that by December, the first advances will be visible to the public, and we are confident that we will conclude the installation by January of the following year.”
Jerry Hynds, who is considered the supreme authority in our municipality, stated that the forecast for mid-2020 is to have visible improvements on the road network at least through to the West End sector. He further affirmed his desire to complete the entire paving project before the upcoming Morazanic Week.

SPANISH TRANSLATION
MUNICIPALIDAD DE ROATAN PRESENTA NUEVO MODELO DE RED VIAL PARA EL MUNICIPIO.
La municipalidad de Roatán a través del departamento de infraestructura presentó el nuevo esquema de red vial que pretende realizar en los tramos carreteros en lo que se trabaja actualmente. En ese sentido el ing. Ricardo castillo supervisor del proyecto mencionó que dicho sistema constará de vías con dos carriles y tres en las áreas donde se observa mayor tráfico vehicular, asimismo se construirán ciclo vías y aceras peatonales.
El primer tramo constará de 7620 metros que contempla desde el Aeropuerto Juan Manuel Gálvez.
Socialización
La Municipalidad de Roatán a través sus redes sociales compartirá videos explicativos sobre el manejo del tercer carril, el cual es básicamente un carril de giros.
A través de este nuevo sistema vial se pretende mejorar condiciones en que se encuentran actualmente las carreteras del municipio de Roatán, al tiempo que se busca liberar el tráfico vehicular que se observa en algunas zonas urbanas.
¿Cuándo inicia?
El Alcalde Jerry Hynds informó que ha habido atrasos debido a los engorrosos procesos que manda a seguir el Estado de Honduras, sin embargo, aclaró que la Municipalidad de Roatán cuenta con los fondos necesarios para ejecutar tan importante obra.
´´Esperamos que para diciembre ya se puedan observar los primeros avances, y confiamos en que vamos a concluir en enero del próximo año´´ apuntó el Edil.
La Máxima Autoridad del Municipio Insular concluyo mencionando que la proyección para mediados del 2020 es haber mejorado la red vial por lo menos hasta el sector de West End y concluir en su totalidad el proyecto de pavimentación antes de la semana Morazánica.
