Governor’s Corner
(UPDATED: 4/9/2020)

Recap

During the 21st Facebook Live transition, Governor Dino Silvestri announced a positive development coming out of RECO, Roatan's Electric Company. In short, RECO has agreed to:

  • Has offered a payment plan to customers in hardship

  • Banks, fuel stations, pharmacies, and grocery stores do not qualify for the RECO payment plan.

In other news, local authorities on Utila allowed six individuals to reach the Bay Islands. The six individuals were guaranteed on a key, and early reports indicate that all COVID quarantine protocols were observed.

The Governor discussed incoming cargo ships, more specifically the crew member aboard these ships. Crew members were reported as having come aboard Roatan and not observing COVID protocols. For this reason, the Governor issued new guidelines restricting the movement of crew members aboard cargo ships.

Scuba Diving and Fishing may be allowed if done in small numbers, and all those interested in engaging in these activities must communicate their intentions with their respective community board.

The Curfew has been extended through April 19th.

Donations

The real challenge is the lack of tourism born from the pandemic. For this reason, an online donations resource has been set up to help support the community at large. Donations can be made online through the Make it Count Foundation, who is a 501(c)(3).

The disbursement of these donations will be for emergency needs, healthcare workers, protective and medical equipment. Allocations of these funds will be transparent online.

Future Facebook Live streams will be held at 3:15 pm (in Spanish) followed by a 4 pm English speaking version.
