(UPDATED: 4/10/2020)
Recap
The 22nd Live update by Governor of the Bay Islands addressed a breach of COVID protocols whereby individuals were reported to come ashore from the mainland. The individuals were confirmed to be part of the police force and were under the direct supervision of none other than the police chief.
Reportedly, the police chief had been in contact with local authorities on the Bay Island as recently as six days ago. Evidently, the Chief of Police took a vacation to the mainland during the COVID travel restrictions, and he was not allowed to return to the island. Earlier this week, the Chief of Police made the decision to return to the island despite having been told not to do so by local leaders. The Chief of Police was recalled to the mainland. Anyone who came in contact with the Chief of Police and his crew has been placed in quarantine. Governor Dino Silvestri made it clear that the decision of the police chief was technically legal, but unwarranted. The situation has been defused, and the Chief and his crew are no longer on Roatan.
There is good news from the Captial Campaign. During the 22nd live broadcast, Governor Dino Silvestri announced that there an anonymous couple match a $100K donation which was made earlier in the relief efforts - bringing the total to $223,860
Donations
The total amount raised through April 7th is $223,860
The real challenge is the lack of tourism born from the pandemic. For this reason, an online donations resource has been set up to help support the community at large. Donations can be made online through the Make it Count Foundation, who is a 501(c)(3).
The disbursement of these donations will be for emergency needs, healthcare workers, protective and medical equipment. Allocations of these funds will be transparent online.
NYC Press Briefing
Governor Dino Silvestri encouraged the public to tune into the daily press briefing by Governor Andrew Cuomo from NYC. This press briefing is meaningful as NYC is recognized as ground zero for the fight against COVID-19.
