ROATAN: 16
CORONAVIRUS: 0
Governor Dino Silvestri addressed the Roatan residents for the eleventh day in a row, via a Facebook live feed. What follows are highlights from today's press briefing.
Ports of Entry continue to be closed. A re-opening date has not been determined.
There continue to be outbound flights. American Airlines flew out for the last time today. There are daily flights scheduled until this upcoming Tuesday. There are four remaining days for departures out of Roatan's International Airport.
Roatan is a major exit hub for tourists of neighboring islands and for travelers from the mainland. So far, there have been an estimated 1500 travelers who have departed Honduras through Roatan.
Roatan's Mayor, Jerry Hynds, has authorized an L.10,000 reward for any accurate report on illegal entries into Roatan. Unauthorized vessels attempted to enter Roatan from the mainland will be reported.
Governor Silvestri asked the public to substantiate any claims of improper entries or illicit activity with a photograph, video, or written proof of the wrongdoing. Merely calling a hotline with an allegation isn't recommended.
Sixteen tests have come back negative. There are now six more tests with pending results. The names of all patients have and will remain anonymous for patient confidentiality reasons.
There were a few reports of parents from the mainland wanting to pick up their minor children from Roatan by sending an aircraft to touch down on Roatan only to pick up their children. The governor directed the parents to submit a private formal request as all minors must have valid documentation for departing the island.
An aircraft attempting to bring travelers from Utila to Roatan malfunctioned today, and those travelers were not able to catch their outbound flight from Roatan.
All passengers looking to transfer to Roatan must do so via air travel. The maritime movement of civilians between the islands is not permitted.
Governor Dino Silvestri encouraged the public to tune in to the daily press briefing by Governor Andrew Cuomo from NYC. This press briefing is meaningful as NYC is recognized as ground zero for the fight against COVID-19.
