Governor's Corner Update
Governor’s Corner
(UPDATED: 3/25/2020)
ROATAN: 16
CORONAVIRUS: 0
The governor spoke about bipartisan unity during what may be the most severe health crisis to hit our island in a long while. Its not uncommon for the governor to be thanked during his Facebook Live streams. He's been consistent about making sure everyone knows of the work being done by the mayors and other heads of state in and around Roatan.
Here are a few highlights from today's live stream:
So far, all 16 tests have come back negative.
There have been regular flights for departing visitors.
There are no incoming tourists at present.
It may be 30 days before we receive tourists again.
Our leaders are considering a ban on alcohol sales.
Local authorities are storing up rations for later use.
There is a new website coming to facilitate donations.
American Airlines is selling tickets for departing travelers.
Our leaders have been hard at work, facilitating the exit of travelers who had been stranded on the island. Meanwhile, the ports of entry have remained closed. The overarching strategy is for the ports of entry to stay closed for an estimated 30 days. During this time, local curfew’s could be slowly lifted. The situation continues to be challenging to manage, and the days to come may themselves reveal personal hardships. Still, the long term strategy can only be successful if Roatan remains free of COVID-19.
