Governor’s Corner
(UPDATED: 4/3/2020)

Recap

The curfew, which is currently in place on Roatan, calls for a rotation for when residents are allowed to go out to run errands. Today was the Governor's day to shop, and he took a moment to share his experience with the viewers of today's Facebook Live Broadcast.

Governor Dino Silvestri urged residents to remain vigilant and remain at home. This request was issued because of reports that there has been some civil unrest inside the community of Coxen Hole. Residents there seem eager to carry out social gatherings in a time when they are not allowed.

Here are a few updates from today's call:

  • Its Governor's birthday today

  • There continue to be residents stranded in Cayman

  • There is some civil unrest in Coxen Hole.

  • Residents should develop a 30-day plan to weather the pandemic.

  • The Governor has a zoom meeting with the Rotary Club

  • Roatan Hospitals fully equipped with appropriate PPE.

  • Access to Hostipats is restricted.

  • The travel band continues.

  • There are four (Vivo 55) ventilators already on Roatan.

  • It's been 19 days since the Roatan curfew went into effect.

  • Capital Gains campaign is up to $111,488

Donations

The total amount raised through April 3rd is $111,488

The real challenge is the lack of tourism born from the pandemic. For this reason, an online donations resource has been set up to help support the community at large. Donations can be made online through the Make it Count Foundation, who is a 501(c)(3).

The disbursement of these donations will be for emergency needs, healthcare workers, protective and medical equipment. Allocations of these funds will be transparent online.
